STD Testing Q & A

Why is STD testing important?

STD testing may seem unimportant, inconvenient, or even embarrassing to pursue. If you’ve avoided STD tests for a long period of time, you’re not alone.

In reality, regular STD testing is very important for your own health and the health of your sexual partners. Many STDs come without any signs or symptoms and can easily spread to others.

When should I get STD tests?

You should come to CareLife Medical for an STD test each time you get a new sexual partner or if you’ve recently had unprotected sex. Even if you don’t think you’re at risk, it’s good practice to get annual STD tests.

You should also get tested if you think you have symptoms of an STD. If an STD presents symptoms, they might include irritation, sores, pain during urination, or discharge.

Which STDs should I get tested for?

STD testing is comprehensive and covers many diseases at once. Dr. Aziz may test you for:

  • Chlamydia
  • HIV
  • Gonorrhea
  • Genital herpes
  • HPV
  • Syphilis
  • Trichomoniasis

If you test positive for one or more of these conditions, Dr. Aziz directs you to the right treatment. You must also inform your sexual partners so they can get STD testing, too.

How does STD testing work?

STD testing is generally very simple on your part. Depending on which diseases Dr. Aziz tests you for, she may recommend a blood draw, a swab, a urine test, or all three.

If you have symptoms that you can see, like a rash or warts, you’ll undergo a visual examination, too. She tells you which diseases she’s testing you for, and which she doesn’t feel are necessary, before you start.

During your appointment, Dr. Aziz asks questions about your sexual habits and any changes in your genitals. There’s no shame in answering honestly. Dr. Aziz conducts STD testing frequently and only has your safety in mind.

The amount of time you must wait for your test results depends on the diseases that Dr. Aziz screens you for. Typically, you can expect to wait two to three days before hearing back from Dr. Aziz with your results.

If you start a new romantic relationship, switch sexual partners, or just need your annual test, don’t hesitate to book STD testing by phone or online at CareLife Medical today.
