PRP Therapy for Hair Loss

PRP therapy for hair loss

Have you noticed these days more and more younger people have been experiencing hair loss? Balding and hair loss have traditionally been associated with advancing age but this if often no longer the case. A new survey indicated that both men and women are seeking medical intervention to deal with their hair loss.  Medical professionals agree that early intervention offers the best chance to stop or slow down hair loss before it is too late.

There could be many reasons for hair loss such as hormonal changes, autoimmune disease, thyroid disorders, poor diet (lack of protein source) and stress.  These are common causes of hair loss in both men and women. One option many people are choosing is PRP therapy.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is used for many different regenerative purposes, such as regenerating muscles, skin and tissue repair, hair loss, wound repair and nerve regeneration.  PRP works by exposing skin cells to a plasma rich blend of platelets that are taken from your own blood. The mixture of platelets is specially created by drawing blood from the patient and then having the platelets separated from the red blood cells through the use of a laboratory quality centrifuge.  Then the concentrated PRP is injected into the scalp. These platelets are rich in growth factors, which help stimulate the activity of hair follicles and promote new hair growth.

This patient is a 24-year-old active male, who experiences hair loss primarily from the anterior/lateral hair line and on top of his crown. These pictures are taken 6 weeks after the 1st treatment, just prior to getting his 2nd treatment.  His hair loss has slowed and some new hair growth is already apparent.  His results are very encouraging and I invite you to watch for updates on this patient as his treatments progress.
